Parenting is a Science (and an experiment in humor)

SWP_Text    Back in the day, our parents had Dr. Spock’s big book to guide them through the mysteries of parenting. Luckily for us, we have Norine Dworkin-McDaniel and Jessica Ziegler to impart their wisdom and humor.

They are not doctors and that’s ok. It’s better. They are real moms writing as fake scientists which translates to pure awesomeness for those of us in the parenting trenches.

Why you ask? Because parenting is one big, fat experiment. The variables are endless and the constants—kids and parents—are just throwing stuff on the old Bunsen burner and seeing what sticks.

The pair’s new book “Science of Parenthood Thoroughly Unscientific Explanations for Utterly Baffling Parenting Situations” is genius. It is chock full of cartoons and narrative with a twist.

These non-scientists use real science and math terms for all the conundrums of parenting we face on the daily.

Like this little gem…..

Right? What parent hasn’t made the mistake of buying what a kid said they liked LAST WEEK? See, it’s not your fault, it’s a bona fide, well-known scientific theory.

Phew!

These ladies have done the impossible. They made me like science. Hell, they made me laugh at science.

This is a great gift for the holidays for any parent, grandparent or expecting parent. I would buy it just for the graphic representing a mom’s brain alone.

And no I’m not going to show you that one—you need to buy the book and see it for yourselves.

SPOILER ALERT: Your brain is full. Done. That’s why parenting gives you a ginormous headache most days.

You owe it to yourself to check this book out. Come on, don’t fight the gravitational pull to click on Amazon right now. Did you see what I did there? I am a real science geek now. Watch out.

WARNING: Eating and drinking while reading this book may cause excess snorting of food and beverage. Proceed with caution.
